Here is a man exiled from his homeland for fear of his own safety, principally due to his challenging ideas regarding the nature of reality and his suggestions on how these might be investigated and exploited, ostensibly for the betterment of mankind by creating an alternative political landscape and an entirely new approach to furniture design. This didn’t sit well with his domestic political leaders who were unwilling to countenance challenges to an established and buoyant domestic furnishings sector, so in fear for his life he relocated to England. Here he purchased a collection of disused 1940s industrial units hidden deep in the Kent countryside where he began to convert them into a home for an experimental theatrical group to explore his ideas regarding reality, human consciousness and the work of Lucian Ercolani.

Some theatre pieces are performed to an audience, some are an experience for a solo performer to explore his or her response to external stimuli such as waking in the dark lost in a forest of rushes and reeds and how the mind reacts differently in such circumstances when compared with an identical experience during the day. One of the key elements of ToppleOppleOv’s work is his continued exploration of how human response has been shown to differ when participants are forced to stand and when they are provided with somewhere to sit, and his research into why these responses may be key to an understanding of the nature of reality itself.
